Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Athens Eye Care – Dr. Shane Foster & Associates the leading provider of vision care products and services in Athens.

Shane Foster, O.D.

Dr. Shane Foster is the owner of Athens Eye Care and has been a doctor in the practice for over 15 years. He is a native of Athens County and was a patient in this practice since childhood. Dr. Foster graduated cum laude from the Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2008. He also attended Ohio University where he received a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a B.A. in Spanish.

Dr. Foster sees patients of all ages with various ocular conditions. He is experienced in fitting specialty contact lenses for patients with corneal abnormalities or complex prescriptions. He also has an interest in pediatric optometry and the crucial role that vision plays in literacy, learning, and academic success.

Dr. Foster is the Past President of the Ohio Optometric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is the current President of the Ohio Optometric Foundation and oversees the Ohio Children’s Vision Initiative, which provides charitable eye care programs to children all across the state. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and volunteers on the State Government Relations Committee. Dr. Foster also chairs the Vision to Learn Ohio Advisory Board, which oversees mobile eye exam programs operating in the state. For his volunteerism and leadership within the profession of optometry, Dr. Foster was presented with the Early Professional Achievement Award from the Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2023.

Rachel LeFebvre, O.D.

Dr. Rachel LeFebvre is a two-time graduate of the Ohio State University. She received her BS in Biology in 2007 and her Optometry Doctorate in 2011. Upon graduation, she furthered her education and completed an ocular disease residency through the Chillicothe and Columbus Veteran Affairs systems.

Dr. LeFebvre is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association where she is currently serving as Zone Governor.

Dr. LeFebvre is a native of Southeastern, Ohio and lives in the region with her husband, two children, and pets.

Dr. LeFebvre is accepting new and returning patients for comprehensive eye care. Her services include diabetic exams, infant eye exams, contact lens fittings, and management of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and eye emergencies (red eyes).

Sherry (Crawford) Compston, O.D.

Dr. Sherry (Crawford) Compston is a graduate of The Ohio State University where she received her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Optometry degrees. She also completed an additional two-year Fellowship in Family Practice Optometry, where she specialized in Ocular Disease and Pediatrics. After completing her residency, she joined the full-time faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor and manager of the Binocular Vision and Pediatrics Clinic. She continues to be an Associated Faculty Member to this day.

In 1997, she moved to Athens to join the practice of Drs. Tom and Susan Quinn where she first worked with Dr. Foster. In private practice, Dr. Compston continued to specialize in children, particularly those with developmental delays, “lazy eye” (amblyopia), or who were struggling in school. She also provided specialized care for adults with a history of Traumatic Brain Injuries or binocular vision disorders.

After many years in private practice, Dr. Compston accepted a position with the US Department of Veterans Affairs. She has been serving local veterans in the Athens and Marietta Clinics since 2008. Through the VA, she has gained extensive experience treating ocular diseases such as Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, and Glaucoma, as well as continuing to work with those suffering from Traumatic Brain Injuries.

In 2022, Dr. Compston returned to practice with Dr. Foster at Athens Eye Care, where she can again use her knowledge and experience to treat children and adults with specialized visual needs. Dr. Compston is also a member of Vision To Learn, an organization that travels to local schools to provide free eye exams and glasses to students.

Liz Day, O.D.

Dr. Liz Day grew up in Northeast Ohio with family ties to Appalachia. She is a first-generation college graduate and a two-time Buckeye, graduating from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry in 2015, then her Doctor of Optometry and Master of Science degrees in 2019. Dr. Day has worked in academia, private practice, and corporate optometry before joining the Athens Eye Care team.

Dr. Day is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Ohio Optometric Association. She was named Student of the Year by the Ohio Optometric Association in 2018. She currently serves on the Education Center Committee for the AOA, which facilitates continuing education for optometrists and their staff.

Dr. Day is passionate about optometry as part of primary healthcare and seeks options for patients that correct their vision and integrate into their daily lives and visual needs. Bringing her educational background into the exam room, she educates her patients on their options and works with them to make decisions regarding their eye care. She believes exceptional clinical care starts with great relationships and is excited to be part of the Athens community!
